Decatur - Main Street Alabama celebrated local program successes at the sixth annual Awards of Excellence on the day that Governor Kay Ivey proclaimed Main Street Alabama Day. The day recognizes the efforts of the organization that is focused on creating jobs and keeping character in communities across the state. During the Awards of Excellence program, Main Street Alabama's President and State Coordinator, Mary Helmer, honored projects and individuals that made tremendous impacts in their respective communities. Alabama Municipal Electric Authority sponsored the event that was held at the Cook Museum of Natural Science in Decatur.
There were no losers in Wind Creek Bethlehem’s grand opening charity contest.
As part of its rebranding bash, the new operator of Bethlehem’s casino gave 10 local nonprofits a shot at winning $25,000 in a social media contest.
Wind Creek Bethlehem held its grand opening this week to celebrate its rebranding from Sands. While it was a star-studded event, with Emeril Lagasse and “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, the announcement that the water park project at the historic No. 2 Machine Shop is still on was the $250 million headliner.
Wind Creek Hospitality, the gaming entity of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama, purchased the Bethlehem casino resort in January from Las Vegas Sands for $1.3 billion. The deal was completed in late May.
Officials of a company that operates casinos on behalf of a Native American tribe in Alabama said Wednesday they will seek a license to open a casino in East Hazel Crest and Homewood. Wind Creek Hospitality officials said the initial phase of the project, estimated to cost $275 million, would include a 64,000-square-foot casino, entertainment venue for live music, three restaurants and two bars.
Sheriff Phil Sims was presented with two checks of $17,500 from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and their gaming operation, Wind Creek Hospitality, totaling $35,000. The money will fund bullet-proof vests for 30-35 deputies within the Sheriff's Office.

The Alabama-based Indian tribe buying the Sands casino for $1.3 billion plans to immediately invest $190 million into a 300-room hotel expansion and development of the No. 2 Machine Shop, possibly into an indoor water park.

This statistic hit close to home in September when 19-year-old Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI) Tribal member, Denver Shuttlesworth lost his years-long battle with cancer. In honor of Denver, and in support of those still in the trenches, Wind Creek Hospitality (WCH) joined the fight by raising funds for Pilots for Christ and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Surprises are often in store during a casino resort visit, but it’s generally from what does or does not happen on the gaming floor.

Reef Foundation Expands Poseidon’s Playground in the Gulf and Partnerships on Land
Orange Beach, Ala – August 2018 – Wind Creek Hospitality is the latest entity to partner with the Alabama Gulf Coast Reef & Restoration Foundation (AGCRRF) to expand recreational diving opportunities off Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Poseidon’s Playground sits three miles offshore, south of Perdido Pass (30° 14.070'N / 87° 31.522'W). The playground, which is now approximately an acre in size, was conceived by the foundation with the intention of creating a dive site that is accessible to a wide variety of divers of all ages and skill levels.
